Summary: For centuries the Dragen have kept the Sidhe enslaved and forced them to breed in captivity soldiers and servants for the Dragan hordes and each of them keys to entrance into Sidhe strongholds. Kurt is unique, the product of genuine love between a Sidhe woman and a mortal man, the only free man of his kind. If he wants to remain free that means he has to stay far away from dragons, but that becomes impossible when his stepbrother Finn gets into trouble and their parents sell everything to pay for his pardon. Kurt has to leave the safety of his village for the first time in his life and face the wide wold of Shael in order to restore his family. In the process he meets a dragon, a boy like him whose sole desire is for freedom. The problem is that seemingly they can only offer each other a life in chains.
